How do I know if I need psychotherapy or counselling session?

If you find that emotions (such as anxiety or persistent low mood) are affecting your daily life, sleep, work performance, or relationships, it is advisable to seek professional help. Counseling is beneficial not only for mental health conditions but also for stress management and personal growth.

What is the process of counseling? What happens in the first session?

The first session is typically an "Intake Interview." The psychologist will understand your background, current challenges, and goals to discuss a tailored treatment plan. All sessions are strictly confidential.

What types of psychological assessments does MPS offer?

We provide specialized clinical assessments, including ADHD screenings, ASD screenings, Learning Disability assessments, IQ testing, and mental health screenings for workplace-related stress.

Are your psychologists licensed/qualified?

All our Clinical Psychologists hold a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology. They are officially registered under the Malaysian Allied Health Professions Council (MAHPC) and hold a valid Annual Practicing Certificate (APC), this ensures that our services meet national professional ethics standards..

How to know if I am depressed?

When should I seek professional help?

How can therapy help me?

If you are experiencing a persistent feeling of being disconnected, a total lack of motivation, or a loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed (anhedonia), these are significant red flags. Other signs include disrupted sleep, changes in appetite, and a sense of "emotional numbness."

If these feelings persist for more than 2–3 weeks and begin to interfere with your work, social life, or daily functioning, it may indicate clinical depression or severe emotional burnout.

Beyond just managing symptoms, therapy helps you identify the underlying patterns and life experiences that shape your current distress. Our clinical psychologists will use different psychotherapy approaches to explore how past events or core beliefs influence your well-being.

Why do I feel empty even when life is okay?

Can anxiety cause physical symptoms?

How to help someone who refuses therapy?

Feeling empty can happen even when life looks “fine” on the outside. From a psychological perspective, this may be linked to emotional disconnection, unmet inner needs, chronic stress, or symptoms of depression.

Yes. Anxiety often affects the body as well as the mind. When the brain perceives stress or danger, the body activates a “fight or flight” response, which can lead to symptoms like rapid heartbeat, chest tightness, stomach discomfort, dizziness, muscle tension, or fatigue. These symptoms are real and common, even when there is no physical illness.

It is common for someone to feel unsure or resistant about therapy. Instead of forcing, it helps more to show understanding, patience, and emotional support. You can gently listen, validate their feelings, and avoid judgment or pressure. Sometimes, offering accompaniment to a session can feel less overwhelming. Change often starts when the person feels safe and not controlled.
